BioThere is a story that Dr. Seuss used to be a habitual pipe tobacco smoker. One day, while signing books and visiting with his young fans, a small child told him that he should know better than to smoke. It's bad for you! He was so taken aback by this youngster, that he immediately dumped out the tobacco in his pipe. When he got home, he planted radishes in it. From then on, he puffed at his pipe, but there was no smoke. Just radishes.
Someday, when I finish my PhD, I want a pipe as a graduation present. A really elegant, distinguished looking one. And then I will plant radishes in it, and look horrendously silly while I lecture to those who have yet to get their degrees.
